Those of you who write manuscripts—that is full-length books—might be eager to find an agent and publisher for them. But not every serious writer feels that way.
To see a different point of view, take a look at my essay, Writing As Self-Indulgence: Is Publishing Really Necessary?
After you finish that essay, check out some of the other posts. The Brevity blog contains excellent ones on all facets of writing. It’s a go-to site of mine.
If you have any feelings about whether or not to publish your work, leave a comment at Brevity or here at Tools and Tactics for writers to let me (and other visitors) know.
Good article. Many times, the writing itself can be therapeutic, especially when something of a personal nature. I once wrote a fictionalized memoir for NaNoWriMo that I have no plans to publish. Don’t know if it would sell enough to be worth the trouble, and anyway, it was one of those cathartic exercises, rather than something I would want to do more of.
Yes, writing as therapy has saved a lot of us!
